If God did not want women to speak...why did he give them tongues? ?

Why give them a brain similar to a man's brain...did God intend for women to actually think regardless of how women are treated in the Bible? Based on God's feelings towards women as depicted in the Bible, would not a brain the size of a small monkey have sufficed?

What is the need in giving women an intellectual capacity equal to a man's? Is that really needed considering the original tasks of women are not all that difficult...cooking, cleaning and breeding..?

1corinthians 14:34-35 ';Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.';

';Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.'; (I Timothy 2:11-14)

';A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.'; (Eccles.26:25)

';For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.'; (I Corinthians 11:8-9)

';A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord: and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed. A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.'; (Eccles. 26:14-15)

Christian women...do the previous passages really sound to you like the word of God? Or do they sound more like something that would come out of the mouth of a man? Do you just ignore this stuff or somehow justify it all?

';The bible teaches that women brought sin and death into the world, that she precipitated the fall of the race, that she was arraigned before the judgment seat of Heaven, tried, condemned and sentenced. Marriage for her was to be a condition of bondage, maternity a period suffering and anguish, and in silence and subjection, she was to play the role of a dependent on man's bounty for all her material wants, and for all the information she might desire... Here is the Bible position of woman briefly summed up.';

--Elizabeth Cady Stanton

And please keep in mind, my question arises from reading the bible and is not intended as an insult...if you find my question offensive then you must also consider the source to be offensive.

If God did not want women to speak...why did he give them tongues? ?
Funny you quote 1Cor 14:34-35 but missed the passage a couple pages earlier where Paul gave directions for women ';LEADING PRAYERS'; or ';PROPHESYING'; IN THE ASSEMBLY.

CONTEXT!!!

The broad context of the last several chapters of 1Corinthians is the view of Christianity which the church presents to the world, and to visitors in the assembly. The 14:34-35 passage is one of THREE TIMES (along with verses 28 %26amp; 30) within just a few verses that Paul writes that a particular person or group should ';shut up'; in the assembly... PRIMARILY for the reason that their conduct presents an unfavorable view to outsiders in the assembly.

A couple pages earlier we see:

1Co 11:5 But a woman dishonors her head if she PRAYS OR PROPHESIES WITHOUT A COVERING ON HER HEAD, for this is the same as shaving her head. 6 Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering.

This is IN CONTEXT dealing with ';PROPRIETY'; in the assembly... in other words, doing things in an ORDERLY FASHION.

IN THAT CULTURE, women covered their heads in public, particularly if they were speaking or otherwise drawing attention to themselves. Failure to follow this CUSTOM brought a measure of public disgrace on the women and reduced their (and the church's) influence in THAT COMMUNITY.

Notice what Paul wrote elsewhere:

Galatians 3:26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GENTILE, NEITHER SLAVE NOR FREE, NEITHER MALE NOR FEMALE, FOR YOU ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham seed, and heirs according to the promise.

... THAT CULTURE put women in an unfavorable position. CHRISTIANITY EVENTUALLY brought a CHANGE... from the inside out.

The SAME THING happened with slavery. It was NOT outright condemned, BUT a focus was placed on EQUALITY, and THIS FOCUS eventually RESULTED in the end of that system.

In ANY of these areas, approaching the idea with condemnation would have resulted in a backlash that would have significantly reduced the influence the church had in the community.

By NOT TRYING to FORCE an end to slavery, or an end to women being thought of as ';second rate,'; but simply presenting an underlying teaching which eventually LED TO these changes, while telling slaves and women to treat the culture and everyone in it with honor and respect, the ';public opinion'; of the church and its message grew higher and higher rather than being torn down, and ultimately DID change the culture. If God did not want women to speak...why did he give them tongues? ?
men do stupid things sometimes....and some cant handle strong women....but God can....those were the old days and those days are gone so please quit repeating it to get attention.....THE BIBLE ISNT OFFENSIVE.....

consider the source of this ques......hmmm
idk... He is weird mysoginist dude under St. paul's imagination
Beacuse god made women more emotional and not more practical like men as even science say this....

So the man have the authority to talk in churches or mosques,,,women too can talk but not as a head but seperately....
Let me guess you went on a website and copy and pasted.
I can think of a few uses for tongues unrelated to speech.
They aren't in church 24/7, stupid. They can speak any other time.
The only reason paul was saying that is because the women in the church were making all kinds of noises and he got mad. You people really need to read the thing as a whole, not a part.
The tongue helps with mechanical digestion too.
I wrote a story about this topic and let me start off by saying, Paul is the very reason I have problems with a lot of preachers today, because Paul speaks at time as though he is the so call full authority forgetting at some point that Jesus is the final say of all. Paul is speaking from man point of view, and not from God standard. People say that Paul was speaking about the ladies of his time which to me mean nothing. That is a chauvinist thing for Paul to write and it shows that it was not from God but from Paul doing. Jesus doesn't say what gender was to go out and minister to the world, he just said go out and minister. It was a woman preacher that God got my attention with, not a male. I would be very careful when reading or teaching Paul's letter since most of his letters were not even written to Christian churches.
Sorry you feel this way, I'm not Christian and you aren't winning me over with these passages.--you say please don't take offense because you only pick passages that are derogatory towards women?

I don't particularly like feminist either, but if people were to think this way, who would really blame them.

I believe your bible also says:

Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not the power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.~1 Corinthians 7:2-4~
Women in the days of the Bible were usually not educated. They were not to speak up to ask questions in church, but ask their husbands later at home.
